Prof. Klaus Schmitz-Abe

Prof. Klaus Schmitz-Abe is an applied mathematician with over 16 years of experience in statistical genetics, specializing in the development of mathematical models and statistical methods to identify and characterize genes involved in human disease. He earned his PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Oxford in 2008 and subsequently joined Boston Children’s Hospital as a Research Fellow in the Division of Genetics and Genomics, where he focused on uncovering the genetic basis of rare diseases. In 2023, Prof. Schmitz-Abe was appointed Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. He currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Division of Neonatology at the University of Miami. He is also an associate member of the Broad Institute of MIT and an active collaborator within the Homozygosity Mapping Collaborative for Autism (HMCA). His research has been widely published in high-impact journals and presented at national and international conferences. He has also mentored numerous clinicians, fellows, and students.
