Prof. Dr. Safa Baris

Prof. Dr. Safa Baris is a full-time Professor of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology at Marmara University, where he leads a nationally recognized clinical and academic program focused on primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) and immune dysregulatory diseases. He received his medical degree from Istanbul University in 2003, completed his pediatrics residency at Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty in 2008, and completed fellowship training in Pediatric Allergy and Immunology at Marmara University in 2012. He has held prestigious international research positions, including at the CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine in Vienna in 2011 and at Harvard University and Boston Children’s Hospital between 2015 and 2016, where he conducted translational research on neutrophilic autoinflammation under a TÜBİTAK international fellowship. He also played a founding role in establishing Türkiye’s first Jeffrey Modell Foundation PID Diagnosis and Treatment Center. Prof. Baris has contributed significantly to the discovery of novel gene defects, elucidation of disease mechanisms, and development of targeted therapies in immune dysregulation. His work has shaped internationally accepted diagnostic and treatment guidelines, driven major clinical trials, and earned high-profile recognition, including the TÜSEB Aziz Sancar Incentive Prize. He has authored over 180 peer-reviewed articles and currently leads multiple nationally and internationally funded research projects. He is a Steering Committee Member of the Clinical Working Party of the European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID), a Committee Member on Inborn Errors of Immunity for the World Allergy Organization (WAO), and a Co-founder and Board Member of the Turkish National Patient Organization for Primary Immunodeficiencies, advocating for improved care, awareness, and research on a national scale.
